Welcome to Live Theatre Workshop's encore presentation of SHIRLEY VALENTINE, by Willy Russell. Thanks so much to all of you who requested we bring Shirley back to life. It has been an honor to work with Carlisle Ellis again, as she graces us once more with her bravura performance of this lovely character.
Whether this is your first time seeing the play or your tenth, I have no doubt you will enjoy Shirley's saucy humor and resonant insight as you accompany her on her journey of self-discovery.
Here are a few of my favorite Shirley Valentine quotes:
"I'd fallen in love with the idea of living...because we don't do what we want to do, do we? We do what we have to do and pretend that it's what we want to do.”
"Why do you get all this life when it can't be used? Why do you get all these feelings and dreams and hopes if they can't ever be used?”
"Dreams are never in the places we expect them to be."
I believe there's a little bit of Shirley Valentine in all of us – male or female, regardless of age. To feel renewed lust for living – to be reminded that there is life beyond our walls – is powerful indeed.
