ABEYANCE at Live Theatre Workshop

An Unkept Secret

A fully improvised play directed by Gretchen Wirges

Featuring: David Gunther, Eric Rau, Jessica Spenny, Allison Talavera, Ally Tanzillo, and Alan Trammel

What happens when six actors are given a scenario, a stage, and no script? Find out in this improvised drama inspired by the likes of "Whose Afraid of Virginia Woolf" and Ayad Akhtar's "Disgraced."

“Themes and characters are different in every show, but the show premise is built on a constructed format that the improvisors follow. The format doesn't dictate the plot, but rather the overall structure that culminates in a dramatic scene, with content derived only from the events that happened throughout the first two acts," says Gretchen Wirges, an actor, improviser, director, and playwright.

"I love improv, and I love theater, and this Etcetera show meshes the two in a very exciting way. The audience participates in the creative process, and sees it put into action as the actors construct the story, the characters, the relationships and a powerful dynamic right in front of their eyes. We’ll go on an exciting, surprising new journey together, not knowing where the story will take us. It's different than any improv show or any traditional play you've ever seen."

Wirges performs locally with FST! Storytelling and Musical Mayhem Cabaret. She also has been teaching and performing improv with several theaters in Tucson and performs nationally with the improv duo Ex-Boyfriend. She started Third Story, a Tucson theater company that showcases storytelling in all its forms. Wirges writes with the Old Pueblo Playwrightsand recently had two of her plays featured in the nonprofit’s 27th annual New Play Festival.
